Ingredients:
- 1 (28 oz) can of crushed tomatoes
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
- Olive oil
- 1 pound ground turkey
- Spiralized zucchini (zoodles)
Instructions:
- Heat a drizzle of olive oil in a pan, preferably a Dutch oven, over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté until tender and fragrant, approximately 30 seconds to 1 minute.
- Add the ground turkey to the pan and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until fully cooked and no longer pink.
- Season the turkey with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning, ensuring the flavors are well distributed.
- Pour in the can of crushed tomatoes and stir to combine. Adjust the seasoning with salt and pepper according to your taste preferences.
- Allow the sauce to simmer over medium-low heat for approximately 15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the sauce to thicken slightly.
- While the sauce simmers, prepare your zoodles. Spiralize the zucchini using a spiralizer or julienne peeler.
- Once the sauce has thickened to your desired consistency, add the zoodles to the pan. Stir gently to coat the zoodles with the marinara sauce. If needed, add small amounts of water to prevent the sauce from drying out.
- Cook the zoodles in the sauce for just a few minutes until they are heated through but still retain a slight crunch.
- Serve the Zoodles and Marinara Sauce immediately, topping it with freshly grated Parmesan cheese, if desired. Enjoy this wholesome and satisfying alternative to traditional pasta.
Recipe Notes:
- Feel free to customize the sauce by adding additional herbs or spices such as basil, oregano, or red pepper flakes, according to your taste preferences.
- For a vegetarian option, omit the ground turkey and add your favorite vegetables, such as mushrooms or bell peppers, to enhance the flavors and textures.
- If you prefer softer zoodles, you can briefly sauté them in a separate pan with a little olive oil before adding them to the sauce.
